Description
Over the course of this 5-day on-site train-the-trainer workshop, a SIOP® Certified Consultant will provide guidance in order to build capacity among district and/or school staff to deliver effective SIOP® Model professional learning. Participants gain an in-depth understanding of the components of the SIOP® Model and techniques in order to teach others to implement SIOP® in their lessons. Using the bestselling, research-based book Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP® Model 5th edition, participants gain practical skills to collaborate, share, and implement lesson plans that incorporate all eight components and thirty features of SIOP® in order to teach content while developing students’ academic and social language. This capacity-building training also prepares participants to be able to communicate the importance of sheltered instruction and the benefits of the SIOP® Model for all students, including English learners.

Session Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Identify the components and features of the SIOP® Model in classroom instruction
• Build a lesson using the SIOP® Model features and components
• Observe and assess the implementation of each of the eight components
• Introduce key SIOP® concepts to others
• Plan and deliver effective, foundational SIOP® professional learning in their schools or
districts
