K-5: Conferring Tool Kits – Teaching in a Writing Conference:  Deciding which Mentor to Use

Date:  March 1, 2017

During a conference it’s easy to fall into the trap of reminding, telling or correcting rather than teaching.  Using a conferring kit that has published texts, our own writing, and student writing helps us remember to focus on teaching the student how to be a better writer rather than fixing their writing.  In this session teachers will learn how to create and use a conferring kit as well as practicing deciding which mentor to use for a particular child and teaching point.
