Conferring is at the heart of readers’ workshop!  The student-teacher conference is a powerful tool that helps meet the individual needs of each reader.  Although I believe conferring is one of the most important components of the readers’ workshop model, it can also be a daunting task.  As we work together during this lab experience, I hope that we will have more thoughtful and authentic conferences with our students.

Walking away from this experience I hope that we will be able to say …

• I can develop consistent procedures and routines for conferring.
• I can balance authentic individual goals within units of study.
• I can take meaningful notes during conferences.
