Orchestrating Mathematical Discourse – Grades K-8 and Algebra 1 Teachers

“The importance of engaging students in meaningful mathematical discussion has long been identified as an essential component of students’ mathematics learning. This session will focus on strategies to facilitate productive mathematical conversations that support student reflection and engagement in a collaborative and supportive learning environment, as required for the Standards of Mathematical Practice.  Teachers will gain a deeper understanding of Mathematical Discourse and learn new questioning strategies to help students make conjectures, talk, question, and agree or disagree about problems in order to discover important mathematical concepts.”
