Ellin Keene Awareness Day for New Teachers

Participants will focus on what’s most important in literacy learning in K-12 by exploring their own reading and turning to research for results.  Ellin will teach about developmental ranges and differentiation, as well as assisting educators in fitting comprehension instruction into t heir overall literacy program.  Participants will take part in demonstration lessons and witness comprehension strategy instruction and teaching tactics, with time for debriefing the lessons afterward.

The is the follow-up  to the workshop held on October 29.  Participants must commit to attend both sessions.  If you registered for the October 29 workshop, you are automatically registered for this workshop.

 What’s Essential: Focusing Instruction to Improve Comprehension
This session will permit participants to discuss the essential elements of literacy instruction that includes an intensive focus on comprehension learning.  Participants will explore what research says about four essential areas of literacy instruction including instruction in comprehension and word learning.  Discussion will focus on how to prioritize instructional time in each of the four areas and how to differentiate instruction for children with a broad range of learning strengths and needs.
