Agenda

Participants will begin by discussing the Outcomes of Understanding, a set of markers that indicate whether students understand deeply.  In addition, participants will learn about an observation tool they can use with colleagues to analyze classroom discourse and will receive several tools students can use to reflect on their oral language interactions with other students.  In the afternoon, participants will have an opportunity to view a demonstration with local students that brings the content into focus for classroom implementation.

The Seminar will be based on Elin”s new Heinemann publication, Talk About Understanding: Rethinking Classroom Talk to Enhance Comprehension (Heinemann, 2012) as well as her two previous books, Mosaic of Thought and To Understand.

Directions to the Gerner Family Early Education Center:
The building doesn’t actually sit on Congress.  You have to either turn into the drive that leads to Congress Middle school off of Congress or turn into the parking lot between the district office and Park Hill High School off of Barry Road.  Signs within the campus will direct you from there.
