Workshop Description:
Dr. Vicki Gibson will discuss differentiating teaching and practice to implement the CCSS.   Providing student-focused, differentiated teaching and collaborative practice daily in small groups requires systematic classroom management routines and procedures.  Establishing routines for managing behaviors and utilizing flexible grouping and engaging students in collaborative discussions is essential to ensure teachers can conduct small group lessons without constant interruptions.  This session provides practical, evidence-based suggestions for managing whole class and small group activities in any grade level or content area.

Dr. Tim Shanahan will discuss an organizational plan that is best when scheduled around the outcomes rather than the teaching activities. Teachers need activities, of course, but they need to keep focused on what they are using those activities towards. A complaint of most of the big names in education is that teachers get too bogged down in methods, activities, approaches and the like, and lose sight of the purpose of those actions.
