Literacy Labs – A Structure That Supports Student Engagement and Keeps Kids from Quitting, for 6th-12th Grade

Date:  February 21-22, 2017, Focus on Science

English/Language arts, social studies, and science teachers of grades 6-12 who want to learn how to keep their kids from quitting and instructional coaches, and administrators who want to provide sustainable professional development for secondary teachers.

Are you curious to know how to increase student engagement? Implementing Literacy Labs in your building is one way to help teachers use current research to inform their instructional practices. Join Cris Tovani and Sam Bennett for two, four or six days to explore how to keep kids from quitting.

Over the course of six days participants will observe actual Literacy Labs in different content areas. Even though content is targeted, we will have new information and all will benefit from these sessions if you wish to attend all six workshops.  Cris will model reading strategies with secondary students while Sam demonstrates ways to sustain adult learning.  Each two-day workshop will highlight the use of learning targets, planning structures, and literacy strategies to keep kids from quitting. Participants are encouraged to attend all six days however, Cris and Sam welcome learners to join them for any of the two-day sessions.
