Agenda

September 17 – Creating a Rigorous and Relevant Learning Environment

Linda Jordan and a member of the ICLE consultant team will help teachers create a more effective learning environment by building upon basic skills and tools to begin to increase rigor, relevance, and relationships in the classroom. With a hands-on approach, this full-day session introduces ICLE’s Rigor/Relevance Framework®, which teachers can use to establish an aligned and focused approach to increasing student achievement. Teachers will be guided toward identifying more rigorous and relevant learning experiences to help with the transition to Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Assessments.

This session will help participants:

Understand and build knowledge of the Daggett System for Effective Instruction
Understand  how  rigor,  relevance,  and  relationships  support  the  foundations  of  effective instruction
Establish common definitions and vocabulary for effective instruction
Begin applying the skills and tools aligned with rigor and relevance to create a more engaging learning environment
Develop action items for creating an engaging learning environment

September 18 – Applying Rigorous and Relevant Instructional Strategies

Linda Jordan and a member of the ICLE consultant team will help teachers better engage students with more effective instruction. Through hands-on learning, participants will model high-impact instructional strategies, focused on the Rigor/Relevance Framework, to best prepare students for fewer, clearer, and higher standards, the aligned assessments, and college and careers. Participants will then begin to plan a lesson that includes elements of high rigor and high relevance.

This session will enable participants to:

Implement effective instructional strategies to raise rigor and relevance
Describe the elements of an effective lesson
Analyze and apply Common Core State Standards
Cultivate higher level thinking through questioning, academic discussion and writing strategies
Reflect on the planning process for opportunities to apply effective instructional strategies
